Humphrey's Corner

Humphrey's Corner by Sally Hunter

A cute book for storytime about a little elephant named Humphrey who gathers up some items from his house.

Tickle, Tickle

Tickle, Tickle by Helen Oxenbury

Another boardbook but big enough to read at storytime.  Illustrated with all ethnicities of children.

Tickle, Tickle

The Bear Went Over the Mountain by John Prater

I thought this book would be cuter than it is because it took so much work to find it.  It would be a good storytime book, very simple and nice pictures.  Even though it is a boardbook it is big enough to show during storytime.

Handa's Surprise

Handa's Surprise by Eileen Browne

A cute book that we are turning into a flannel board story.  African animals and fruits that children can learn about.  A definite storytime book.

Bedtime for Frances

Bedtime for Frances by Russell Hoban
Illustrated by Garth Williams
Every little kid does this once in a while--drags out going to bed.  Frances does not want to go to bed-or go to sleep.  She make up all kinds of things to not fall asleep.  It is a longer book.  Maybe more for a preschool group.

Where's Spot?

Where's Spot? by Eric Hill

Great book for storytime.  Another popup book where Momma is looking for her puppy Spot.  Opening things in the house and finding all kinds of animals.

Dear Zoo

Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell

A wonderful popup book for storytime that kids can call out the names of animals as the popup doors come open.  At the end, the zoo sends him a dog which he loves and keeps.

Pat the Bunny

Pat the Bunny by Dorothy Kunhardt

A boardbook with touch and feel pages make this a great lapsit storybook.  Not a good one for storytime as it is small.  Unless you can get your hands on 20 or 30 copies to have each mother put their child on their laps and read individually to thier own kid.  Not very realistic.

Thomas the Really Useful Engine

Thomas the Realy Useful Engine by Reverend W. Awdry
Very brilliant, colorful pictures.  The story is long but could be used for a storytime.  The message is clear; help others.  The themes could be trains and helping others.

Make Way for Ducklings

Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey

A great book for preschools but too long for toddlers.  Wonderful illustrations in fact it won the Caldecott Medal in 1941.  A great book for bed, home, and ducks.

Mr. Grumpy's Outing

Mr. Grumpy's Outing by John Burningham
A good book to read to a preschool storytime group.  Boats and animals would be good themes to use this book with.  Mr. Grumpy wants to take a boat ride but lots of others do also.

Good Dog, Carl

Good Dog, Carl by Alexandra Day
A mostly wordless book about a mother who leaves her baby with Carl the dog and the exploits that happen while the mother is gone.  Pictures are detailed nicely.  The story is one where children could point out the things Carl shouldn't be allowing the baby to do.

Elmer

Elmer by David McKee
This would be a wonderful book for a storytime themed after being different.  It could also be used in an elephant theme.  The pictures are bright and colorful.

Kipper

Kipper by Mick Inkpen
A littler longer book that would be appropriate for preschool storytime.  Could be themed as dogs, home, bed.  Kipper wants to clean out his basket but finds that the things in it make him comfortable after a search of another place to sleep.  Pictures are basic but cute.
